Fashion Icons Week - Leighton Meester

Today's style icon is another star of Gossip Girl - Leighton Meester. Leighton is best known for her role as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007-2012.

One of television's most loved relationships was between Blair and Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick). My heart has stopped a few times because of Chuck and Blair. I don't think a tv relationship has ever caused me so much stress, not even Rachel and Ross. Blair Waldorf was not only the Queen B on Gossip Girl but the fashion queen also. Serena (Blake Lively) had a cool, effortless, bohemian style but Blair was always so high fashion in Oscar de la Renta and Jason Wu. Blair also pursued a career in the fashion industry just like her tv mother, Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin). Leighton herself has a great sense of style and an incredible voice.

In 2011, Leighton released her first small album 'Love Is a Drug' and in 2014 she released 'Heartstrings'. Her music is best described as indie pop. When I first heard the album 'Heartstrings' I was shocked. I knew before that that she could sing but the style of music she chose to go with surprised me because not many artists choose to go that direction. Most will go totally mainstream pop just to get their albums sold. Leighton has always stayed true to herself and has done what she wants to do. Now, 3 years after Gossip Girl she is married to actor Adam Brody and just recently it became known that she is pregnant with her first child!

Gossip Girl is such a big part of my life. That show has always made me so emotional and the people felt like family to me because I saw them everynight and got involved in not only the character's lives, but in the actor's lives as well. It's also been an important factor in my wanting to pursue a career in fashion. I know that it's television and not everything happens the way tv makes it look like, but seeing Blair work in the industry in New York looked like the most fun to me ever.
